Property and Labour Flashcards
What is private property based on?
Labour.
Making a productive difference to the world God gave us means we are adding to the common stock.
Why do we not need the consent of others to take property?
We own the world in common with others so the labour we do to goods allows us to obtain that as property provided we follow the 2 provisos.
What are the 2 factors of the proviso?
Enough and as good is left for the others.
Do not appropriate more than you can use - avoid waste/spoilage
What is the function of money? Locke’s thoughts on the economic market?
Money facilitates exchange.
But Locke didn’t envisage a market economy in the state of nature.
Why do we need a government according to Locke?
With the increasing complexity of social interaction, there is a need for coordination = government.
They must manage earthly needs and adjudication of property conflicts.
