Properties of waves Flashcards
Longitudinal wave
A wave that moves in the same direction as the direction in which the particles are vibrating.
Transverse wave
A wave that moves in a direction at right angles to the way in which the particles are vibrating
How do you calculate Time period?
Time period= 1/frequency
How do you calculate wave speed?
Wave speed= Wave length x frequency
How is sound created?
Air particles vibrate and collide with each other, causing the vibrations to pass between the air particles.
How can we calculate the speed of sound?
Speed= Distance/time
What is the value for the speed of sound?
330 m/s
How can we calculate frequency from the ripple tank?
Count the number of waves that pass a point in 10 seconds, then divide it by ten
