Properties Of Metals Flashcards
To know all of the properties
What is Color?
Color helps to identify metals and enhances their appearance.
What is Fusibility?
Fusibility is the ability of a metal to become liquid when heated.
What is Conductivity?
Conductivity is the ability of electricity to flow through metal. (Copper and aluminum are good examples.)
What is Hardness?
Hardness is the ability of a metal to resist scratch and wear.
What is Ductility?
Ductility is the ability of a metal to be stretched cold without breaking.
What is Brittleness?
Brittleness is the undesirable property of a metal to snap without warning.
What is Toughness?
Toughness is the ability of a metal to be bent or twisted, and to resist shock without breaking.
What is Malleability?
Malleability is the ability of a metal that can be hammered, rolled and extruded without breaking.
What is Tenacity?
Tenacity is the ultimate tensile strength of a metal.
What is Elasticity?
Elasticity is the ability of a metal to go back into its original shape or size after being stretched, compressed or deformed.
What is Magnetism?
Magnetism is the ability to attract or repel iron.
What is Relative Density?
Relative Density is the ratio of the density of a material compared with the density of water.
What is Expansion and Contraction?
Metals expands when heated but contracts when cooled.
