Properties Of Matter And Their Measurement Flashcards
two types of properties
physical and chemical
what are physical properties
which can be measured or observed without changing the identity or composition of the substance
what are chemical properties
which can be measured only with a chemical reaction
cannot be determined by just viewing or touching the substance
ex acidity, basicity, combustibility, reactivity
a measured physical quantity is expressed in two parts
a numerical coefficient and a unit
base physical quantities and their units
length (l) – metre (m)
mass (m) – kilogram (kg)
time (t) – second (s)
electric current (I) – ampere (A)
thermodynamic temperature(T) – kelvin (K)
amount of substance (n) – mole (mol)
luminous intensity (Iv) – candela (cd)
