Q

Why do you put the blade of a counterweight propeller into high pitch before stopping the engine ?

A

This type of propeller has movable cylinder that slides over a fix piston. In high pitch position the cylinder moves inboard covers the piston protecting it from dirt and moisture in the air .

Q

Why are cones installed on splined shaft with a propeller ?

A

Cone center the propeller on the shaft as they are force toward each other by tightening of the nut

13
Q

How is feathering accomplished on a constant speed counter weight propeller ?

A

By releasing governor oil pressure on the counterweights . The featuring spring moves the blade to the feather position and oil return to the engine

15
Q

What is the purpose of slinger ring on some propeller installation ?

A

Deicing fluid is ejected from a stationary nozzle on the engine into a u-shape channel attached to the rear of the propeller assembly. Slinger ring is call the u-shaped channel

16
Q

What is blade tracking ?

A

To determine the position of tip of propeller blade relative to each other

17
Q

Do the counterweight on a constant speed propeller increase or decrease of the blade angle ?

A

Centrifugal force of counterweight increase the pitch of the blades

18
Q

What should you adjust if pilot request 50 more rpm on the aircraft equipped with a constant speed propeller ?

A

Adjust the governors prop-level set screw

19
Q

Why are propeller indexed to the crankshaft of an engine

A

To reduce vibration

20
Q

Can transverse cracks in a propeller be repaired

A

No

21
Q

What is the alpha range and beta range of a propeller?

A

Alpha range is the propeller position when aircraft is in flight. Beta range is the condition of the propeller during ground operation, and and reverse pitch position

22
Q

When changing a metal bushing on a wooden propeller assembly, a thorough inspection of the bolt hole should be accomplish. Why?

A

To check for check for elongation of the holes

23
Q

How are wooden propellers cleaned?

A

Soap and water

24
Q

What happened to a constant speed feathering propeller when the propeller governors oil pressure drops to 0 psi?

A

It returns to the feathered position

25
Q

What is the purpose of an arbor when balancing a propeller

A

To support the propeller on the balance knives

26
Q

What two forces are balanced in a propeller governor in an on-speed condition?

A

Speeder spring, and flyweight

27
Q

How do you determine a reparability of a damage propeller blade?

A

Manufactures maintenance manual

28
Q

When engine vibration is reported, what should be checked to determine if it is cause by the engine or the propeller

A

blade tracking and blade angle setting

29
Q

What position of a two bladed propeller are used during static balance test

A

vertical and horizontal position

30
Q

What adjustments are powerplant mechanics allowed to make on a prop governor?

A

Only the maximum rpm stop

31
Q

What three things does a typical constant speed, propeller governor accomplish when operating ?

A

Controls the amount of oil that flows to the propeller, sense the rotational speed of the engine, boosts engine oil pressure before it enters the propeller hub .
