Replace nouns; allowing for smooth flow of the text; less repetition
Subject and Object Pronouns
Subject=does a thing, Object=has stuff done to it ex. She received a letter. I gave the letter to her.
Relative Pronouns
Begin dependent clauses (does not express a complete thought); can be a subject or object; who, whom, which that
Which vs. That
Refers to a non-human. I live in Texas, which is a large state.
Interrogative Pronouns
Begins a question; who, whom, what, how, when, which
Demonstrative Pronouns
Point out or draw attention to someone or something. They can also indicate proximity and distance; this, these
Indefinite Pronouns
Works well to replace a list of names or objects; mary, bill, Scott, and joe visited the museum. All visited the museum; everybody, nobody, nothing, something, anything, another, somebody
