Promps & Procedures Worksheet Flashcards
Define Prompt
Guiding the student through a motion (should not be the entire motion). The student should participate in some aspect of the intended motion.
Example: OSHS that prompts the RB- Allow the student to participate in the end of the rotation on initial attempts with your hands still applied and then require more and more from the student in the next presentations.
Define Procedure
This is a set up that provides full performance opportunities for the student. This allows you to assess the student’s performance for independence. Procedures are not meant to be prompted but if you need to prompt, be aware that you will need to fade yourself out gradually and soon. If you need to prompt, you should expect that additional shaping is needed for that portion.
Define Functionally Related Behavior
A behavior that a student can already perform is utilized in helping the student to assimilate a new behavior/skill that is being shaped.
Example: The rotation required to rotate around to attain the wall in a Sit In is functionally related to the same rotational directional that can be taught to the student to flip over off the float.
Define Target Behavior
The behavior you are teaching the student by presenting a stimulus that the student is likely to immediately respond to. It is the behavior you are trying to shape. The performance/behavior/response/single muscle movement or approximation that is intended to be shaped by the instructor. In order for the behavior to be shaped, you must insure that a reinforcer is provided immediately following the behavior in relation to the SOR you are applying. If the SOR is being leaned out, there must be a Secondary Reinforcer present to get more from the student.
Define Shaping
The process of continually reinforcing better attempts (successive approximations) at a target behavior. The reinforcer may not always be the same entity every time, and sometimes the reinforcer is delayed in order to get more behavior or longer position being maintained by the student.
Text Book Definition: Differentially reinforcing successive approximations of a target behavior.
