Prokaryotic Cells Flashcards

1
Q

What is a prokaryotic cell?

What are the characteristics of a prokaryotic cell?

A

A cellular organism without a nucleus, which is small + simple.

Cell division by fission, single chromosome present, nucleotide not surrounded by membrane, membrane organelles are absent.

Q

What is the function of the mesosome?

A

It helps to perform cellular respiration, dna replication + cell division. This increases the surface area of the cell membrane.
