Eukaryotic Cells Flashcards
What is a eukaryotic cell?
What are the characteristics of a eukaryotic cell?
Organisms where its cells have a nucleus. Includes all animal and plant cells.
Large in size, complex, nuclear material surrounded by nuclear membrane, more than 1 chromosome present, cell division by mitosis and meiosis, membrane organelles are present.
What is the function of the nucleus?
Holds the cells dna and controls the function of the entire cell.
What is the function of mitochondria?
Performs cellular respiration. Takes nutrients from cell and turns it into energy.
What is the function of the rough endoplasmic reticulum?
Produces proteins
What is the function of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
Synthesis of lipids, hormones and metabolism ions. Detoxification of harmful metabolic byproducts.
Wat is the function of the Golgi apparatus?
Modifies, sorts and packages proteins for secretion. Transports lipids and the creation of lysosomes.
What is the function of chloroplasts?
Conducts photosynthesis
What is the function of the ribosomes?
A cell structure that makes proteins.
What is the function of the lysosomes?
Removes waste as well as destroying a cell after it has died. Holds enzymes that’s purpose is to digest things,
What do both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells include?
Both have a cell membrane, amino acids for assembling amino acids into proteins, dna and rna, ribosomes and vacuoles.
What do only plant cells contain?
Chloroplasts.
