What are the 12 Agile Principles?
- Customer satisfaction by early and continuous delivery of valuable software.
- Welcome changing requirements, even in late development.
- Deliver working software frequently (weeks rather than months)
- Close, daily cooperation between business people and developers
- Projects are built around motivated individuals who should be trusted
- Face-to-face conversation is the best form of communication (co-location)
- Working software is the primary measure of progress
- Sustainable development, able to maintain a constant pace
- Continuous attention to technical excellence and good design
- Simplicity—the art of maximizing the amount of work not done—is essential
- Best architectures, requirements, and designs emerge from self-organizing teams
- Regularly, the team reflects on how to become more effective, and adjusts accordingly
Designated person that represents the customer on the project
Product Owner
Manages the Agile project. Primarily acts as a facilitator.
Agile Project Manager/Scrum Master
Project requirements from the customers.
Product Backlog
Meeting done by the Agile team to determine what features will be done
in the next sprint.
Sprint Planning Meeting
Work the team selects to get done in the next sprint.
Sprint Backlog
A short iteration where the project teams work to complete the work in the sprint backlog,
(1-4 weeks typically)
Sprint
A quick meeting each day to discuss project statuses, led by the Agile
project manager. Usually, 15 minutes.
Daily Stand Up Meeting
An inspection done at the end of the sprint by the customers
Sprint Review
Meeting done to determine what went wrong during the sprint and what when
right. Lesson learned for the sprint.
Retrospective
Several Sprints worth of work directed to operations for possible rollout and testing

Budget at Completion
BAC
Original budget of the project.
Planned Value (PV)
PV= Planned % Complete x BAC
Amount of money worth of work we that
should have been done on the project.
Earned Value (EV)
EV= Actual % Complete x BAC
Amount of money worth of work you actually
did on the project
Actual Cost (AC)
None, just the amount already spent on the project. Amount of money you already spent on the project
Cost Variance (CV)
CV = EV - AC
Negative values indicate over
budget.
The difference between the work done and
money spent. This value should be positive for
under budget.
Cost Performance Index
CPI
CPI = EV / AC
The rate of how we are spending to actually
earning on the project.
This value should be 1
and over for projects under budget.
Schedule Variance (SV)
SV = EV - PV
The difference between the amount of work
we should have done vs. the amount actually
done. This value should be positive for ahead
of schedule.
Negative values indicate behind
schedule
Schedule Performance
Index (SPI)
SPI = EV / PV This value should be 1 and over for a project to be ahead of the schedule. The rate of how we are meeting the project schedule.
Estimate at Completion
EAC
EAC = BAC / CPI
Forecasting the total cost of the project at the
end based on the current spending rate of the
project.
Estimate to Completion
ETC
ETC = EAC - AC
Forecasting the amount that will be needed
to complete the current project based on the
current performance.
Variance at Completion
VAC
VAC = BAC - EAC
The difference between the original budget
and new forecasted budget. This value should
be positive for projects that may end at or
under budget
To-Complete Performance Index (TCPI
TCPI = (BAC – EV) /
(BAC – AC)
The performance that needs to be met to finish
the project within the budget.
TCPI should be one or under. If your TCPI is 1.2, this means your project team must work 20%
harder to finish the project within its budget. If your TCPI is .8 this means your team can work
20% less to finish the work within the budget.
