Project Management Flashcards
Project management
- A process which involves planning and organising activities using resources to help achieve the objectives of a business.
- application of techniques + skills in order to complete a given project in efficient manner
Separate parts of project management
- planning
- executing
- monitoring
- completing
Critical path analysis (CPA)
The process that allows for the overall time of a project to be calculated.
Diagrammatic network drawn to show when activities should start and finish.
Can see when activities can be undertaken simultaneously.
What does a node represent in CPA?
- the start of an activity
- the end of an activity
- both start and end of activity
What does it mean if an activity is followed by another?
The second activity cannot start until first is complete. (Dependent on activity 1/A)
What does it mean of two activities (the lines) are drawn in parallel?
The activities can take place simultaneous. These both have to be completed before another activity can start.
Earliest start time (EST)
The earlier time activity can start
How to calculate EST
Add the length of previous activity and put answer IN the next node
How to calculate EST of an activity after first one
EST of previous activity + length of activity
Latest finish time (LFT)
Latest time in which an activity can be completed without causing delay to the next
How do you work out LFT
Work left to right minusing duration from est
What is the critical path
Where in a node EST aLFT are the same
How do you mark the critical path
Parallel lines on the activity line
