Project execution deliverables
Items that are created or take place within this phase of the project.
Project execution milestones
Timing for events or documents that must be completed within this phase of the project.
Status reports
Documents that reflect how much of the project is complete. Documentation can be meeting minutes, schedules that show work completion, task lists with roles and responsibilities. Any documentation that is identified during planning as an project artifact.
Project artifacts
Documents such as contracts, schedules, budgets, stakeholder communications, metrics reports, etc.
Critical path
The sequence of project activities or task order and duration which make up the longest overall duration or amount of time to complete the project from start to finish.
Example
The project kickoff with stakeholders, document preparation, contract signature and event itself are all on the critical path. The status reports, team bonus payments and event picture sharing can be completed after the event is over.
Duration
The length of time required from start to finish, e.g. 5 days or 3 hours. This duration can be spread out over time. 1 hour required each day means the duration is a minimum of three days from start to finish.
Effort
The total effort measured in units. Effort can be hours, days or some other measure of time.
Size
Size is a unit of volume. Large in size, requiring 3 people 5 full-time days of effort. The large task will last at least one week in duration or it can be spread out over 4 weeks if the people assigned to the task are also working on other things.
