traditional
- not complicated, have been built before, well defined scope, min risk of changes, time/scheduale isnt significant factor, min political constraints
- road paving, single family house, warehouse, etc

design build
- highly technical where coordination between designers and builders essential
- projects that could benifit from fast tracking, eg start making money sooner

CM
- large complex projects
- projects for owners who dont have in house expertise to manage them
- commercial real estate developments

CM w/o risk
- big complex projects where owner wants to hire designer and builder directly but dosent have in house expertise to manage

CM at risk
- owners who dont intend to be involved day to day in design and construction process. owner pays cm to carry risk
