What are the Format of Drawings?
Full sheets or bound details
What are Specifications?
Written instructions to be used in conjunction with drawings so that they together fully describe and define the work to be accomplished.
What are three purposes for Specifications?
- They provide information that cannot be easily shown in graphic form
- They are a guide for bidders in producing cost estimates for proposals
- They’re a guide for contractors in Construction
Specifications provide what information?
- Quality of materials
- Quality of workmanship
- Erection and installation methods
- Test and Inspections
What is a Prescriptive Spec?
A step by step procedure
What is a Performance Spec?
End result or performance of finished product
Specifications should be taken from where?
CCDC and CSI (Construction Specification Institute)

What are the Supplementary Conditions?

- Modify the General Conditions
- Indicate deletions from the General Conditions
- Add to the General Conditions
What two ways can Supplementary Conditions be used?
- Contain special legal requirements of the contract that apply solely to the project at hand
OR - Be an additional common standard to a specific owner (e.g. City of Surrey Supplementary MMCD)
What are Addenda (Addendum)?
- Any change in detail, additions, corrections, and contract conditions that arise before bids are opened
- Becomes part of bid documents and issued to registered bidders
- Any changes after are dealt with as Change Orders
What are Attachments?
A number of other documents attached to the proposal, including
- pre-qualification statements
- bond forms
- listing of subcontractors
