Project 5 Questions Flashcards
What is the purpose of the collective pitch control?
To change the pitch on ALL blades in order to attain higher/ lower lift. (vertical control)
What is the purpose of cyclic pitch control?
To change the pitch on specific blades in order to move around horizontally
How does the semi-rigid rotor head deal with Gyroscopic precession?
Tail rotor
If there is a rotor strike, what are the marks called left by the grip roller bearings on the hub?
Brinelling
What is the difference between this and false brinelling?
False brinelling is caused by fretting corrosion. True brinelling only occurs on one side of the grip
How do the blades flap, hunt, and change pitch?
They flap naturally under loads because of the flexible material that the rotor head is made of. The pitch change link and the sleeve rotate in order to change pitch
Where is the Bell 206 freewheeling unit located? and what is its purpose?
The freewheeling unit is located between the transmission and the engine Its purpose is to disengage the engine from the mast in the event of an engine failure.
What causes the magnetic chip detector light to illuminate on the instrument panel?
When there is a large enough chip of metal that passes over the magnet
What are the basic components of the AS350 MRH
Self lubricating oscillating bearing, Sleeve flange, star assembly, pitch horn, elastometric flange
How do the blades flap, hunt, and change pitch?
They flap through the flexibility of the star arm
They hunt through the blade and sleeve moving around the laminated spherical bearing
They change pitch through the pitch horn and the flexible star
