Project 2: Carburetor & Fuel Injection System Flashcards
What is meant by the term isolation and how is it accomplished?
Locking out a particular system such as electrical, securing that switch or system in a way so it cannot be inadvertently actuated and placarding to communicate
What type of fire extinguisher is used for Carburetor & Fuel Injection System?
Class B
How do you ensure that there will be no electrical shorts that could lead to a fire?
Either disconnect battery or pull all related circuit breakers and place placards on them
Safety precautions for fuel control systems
shut off fuel system, fuel lines capped to prevent leaks and contamination, label all items removed
why is pre-removal inspection carried out?
in order to determine if there are any issues so that they can be rectified while the component is at the repair facility not once it returns
what items are inspected during pre-removal?
the carb and attaching parts, controls, fluid lines, and induction air-box
procedures for removing carburetor
pre-removal inspection
shut-off fuel and drain carburetor
remove cables, air-box, fuel lines
remove carburetor
What standards of airworthiness must be carried out that are applicable to this task in accordance with Standard 571.10 “Types of Work Table” (after Re & Re)
Carry out a pressure leak test and an Independent or dual inspection
What items are inspected during the completion of the rigging and dual inspection?
Correct installation of safety devices
Correct installation of cable & hardware
correct sense of motion and correct travel (“Cushion”)
Who can sign the duel inspection?
AME, AMO, or an Authorized Pilot
What are typical faults found in induction systems?
Loose or missing hardware clamps
leaking gaskets & couplings
fuel stains
What is inspected when examining engine hoses?
Kinks and twists proximity to heat sources leaks chafing & deterioration age of the hose
How do you tell the age of an engine hose?
Manufacturing info is on the metal i.d. tag
What is the make and model # of the engine used for fuel injection?
Continental TSIO-520
What are the advantage of fuel injection?
Fuel/Air mixture is distributed evenly
no icing
Primary components of the fuel injection system, in sequence with the flow of fuel through the system
Injector pump
Fuel/Air mixture control unit
fuel manifold valve
injector nozzle
what subassemblies are incorporated in the fuel/air mixture control unit?
Throttle assembly (throttle valve) Fuel control assembly (mixture valve & metering valve)
