The incarnation, resurrection and ascension
Meaning of god incarnate?
The concept as god as man.
Why was Jesus not affected by the original sin?
Because of his incarnation.
What was the main purpose of Jesus’ incarnation?
To die, to take the punishment for human sin, in order to restore the broken relationship between God and humanity.
Meaning of crucifixion ?
Jesus death on the cross.
What do Christians believe about Jesus death that has a positive impact with the relationship between humans and god?
It is because of Jesus’ death that Christians beleive it is possible for humans to have a restored relationship with god.
Meaning of resurrection?
Jesus’ return from the dead.
What evidence is there towards Jesus being god incarnate?
Jesus resurrection is evidence that he was God incarnate. No other human being has the power over life and death in this way.
Meaning of Ascension?
Jesus’ return to heaven after the resurrection.
What did Jesus’ ascension signify?
The end of his life and work on earth. His work in heaven continues.
What are two ways of interpreting Jesus’ ascension?
Jesus literally returning back up to heaven. Also be understood symbolically, the rising up of Jesus represents his success of good over evil; he lives alongside God and reigns with him.
Some Christians use of the crucifix? Why?
Some Christians’ use of the crucifix in worship allows them to focus on the meaning of the death of Jesus and on his sacrifice and suffering.
Empty cross found in Protestant churches?
Emphasises the idea that the cross was not the end and that Jesus rose from the dead.
What evidence is there to show of a heaven after death?
Jesus said he was going to prepare a place for believers (John 14:2)
