What did the first Christians believe?
Even though Jesus has left Earth and ascended to heaven, he would return and replace the sinful and evil world.
What is eschaton?
One of the first Christian beliefs, they believed they were living in the end time, the last days of the world.
What is Parousia?
Second coming of Jesus Christ.
Meaning of apocalyptic?
The end of the world and often used to describe the second coming.
Two todays perspectives on the second coming?
Christians today still live in expectation of the second coming, others try to calculate when the world will end from what they believe are signs in the text of the bible.
What do most Christian’s believe that the teachings about the second coming and end of time are about?
Expressing the belief that God has a plan which is yet to be completed.
What do Christian’s believe that humans beings process?
An immortal soul that is distinct from their physical body.
What does Paul explain about human bodies dying and resurrection?
Explains that humans imperfect and mortal bodies will die but that their spiritual bodies will be resurrected. (1 Corinthians 15:42-44).

What is a eschatological belief on the end of time?
End of time all the dead will be raised to be judged by god.
What is “hell”?
Eternal separation from gods after death.
What is repent?
feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one’s wrongdoing or sin.
Where does Jesus refer to hell? What does he call it?
In the New Testament, Jesus refers to Gehenna which is translated as hell.
Meaning of annihilation?
Being completely destroyed so as to no longer exist.
Give 3 perspectives on “hell”?
Hell is a place of eternal punishment and suffering. Believe that hell will be annihilation, body and soul will be destroyed. Believe that hell is a way of expressing an eternal existence without God. (See hell as symbolic)
