Triangle Factory fire
March 25, 1911 fire broke out in the triangle factory caused by a flammable rag or
cigarette butt. Many women died around 146, mostly immigrant women.

Meat Inspection Act (allowed federal agents to inspect any meat crossing state lines,
could force products off the shelves) and the Pure Food and Drug Act (placed same restrictions as MIA on other foods and on medicines ) was passed

“The Jungle’s” focus on the plight of the workers but the public was more interested in
the stories of the spoiled meat.
