Programming and Site Analysis Flashcards
3 Parts of the Programming Phase
- Goals for the Project
- Areas, Sq Footage, Spatial Relationships
- Basic Budgeting (as areas and square footages are highly dependent upon this)
5 Step Programming Process
- Establish Goals
- Collect & Analyze Facts
- Uncover & Test Concepts
- Determine Needs
- State Problem
Space & Conditions Analysis
Measuring and recording all site conditions, evaluating existing space, space allocation, furnishings, equipment, etc.
Programming Phase vs Design Concept Phase
Programming Phase: Wishlist Items- identifying functional solutions
Design Concept Phase: Specific Approach - developing a physical solution
Schematic Design
The process of graphically analyzing & synthesizing info. i.e. bubble diagrams, prototype sketches, block diagrams, etc.
Laser Scanning
The most accurate measurement method & is especially useful for large, complex interiors
Rectified Photography
an antiquated measurement method that uses a film-base camera
Orthophotography
Similar to rectified photography but requires the use of a digital camera
Photogammety
The use of photography in surveying and mapping
Building Envelope
Protects building occupants and plays a major role in regulating the indoor environment.Includes what the building is constructed of which determines how much electricity is uses and what is needed of the mechanical system.
Commingled Recycling
A common method of recycling where waste is sent in one container to a facility where it can be separated into different recyclable components (does not effect building energy use)
Programming
a process during which info about a problem is collected, analyzed, and clearly stated to provide a basis for design. It defines a problem before a solution is attempted.
Programming is a problem analysis
Criteria Matrix
a matrix that outlines reasons that are not related to adjacencies (such as access to views, plumbing, etc.)
