Furniture, Finishes, Equipment and Lighting Flashcards
ASTM D2047
Dynamic Coefficient of Friction of Hard Surfaces - establishes criteria for static COF measurements of flooring surfaces (only for dry surfaces)
Minimum Rating for DCOF (Dynamic Coefficient of Friction)
0.42
ASTM E84
Steiner Tunnel Test; used for interior wall and ceiling textile finishes; rated from A-C, A being the most fire resistive
ASTM 2859
Methenamine Pill Test; measures if a carpet will ignite and sustain a fire. required for all carpet sold in the US
NFPA 265
textile wall finishes NOT including ceilings
Radiant Panel Test
ASTM E648 NFPA 253: used to rate interior floor finishes such as carpet, resilient flooring, and hardwood floor assemblies, as well as wall base. Originally developed to simulate the type of fire that develops in corridors and exit ways, the test measures the tendency of a floor covering material to spread a fire.
Measures are rated Class I, Class II or Class III with class I being required in corridors, hospitals and other occupancies where its more difficult to get out
ASTM E662
Smoke Chamber Test - can be used by manufacturers in research and development of materials but is not currently used for regulation or fire rating purposes.
Avora FR
the trademark for licensed fabrics containing 100% inherent FR polyester fiber from INVISTA. Trade name for a modified polyester yarn that is permanently flame resistant within the fiber regardless of wear or the number of washing.
AATCC 16
American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorist - test uses a Fade-Ometer to determine the color fastness under light exposure of textile materials using six different test options. The most common test option uses xenon arc lamp with continuous light.
AATCC 8
American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorist - tests colorfastness to crocking or rubbing
TB 117-2013
Also referred to as CAL 117; smolder test for fabrics, barrier materials and resilient filling material
ASTM D4157
Wyzenbeek abrasion resistance test (only for fabrics)
ANSI A137.1
American National Standard Specifications for Ceramic Tile - measures the DCOF of ceramic tiles
ANSI A326.3
measures DCOF of all other hard surface flooring materials (not tile)
ASTM F462
the Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Slip-Resistant Bathing Facilities, a test used with soapy water for bathtubs and shower structures, was withdrawn without replacement in 2016.
Parameter Method
uses base unit pricing per material when specific products are not yet selected
Square Footage Method
based off of project type and used much before the design work has started
Detailed Quantity Takeoff Method
used when the project has progressed to the point of specific manufacturers and products to determine a fairly exact budget number
Matrix Costing
details pricing alternatives
When selecting interior partition finishes to meet flame-spread standards, the most important considerations are
the occupancy group, and the location in the building where the finishes will be used
FOB Destination
the seller retains title to the goods while in transit, because the title is transferred at the destination (delivery).
FOB Shipping Point
the title is transferred to the buyer when the goods leave the manufacturer or seller.
Scribe
an oversized piece of plastic laminate or wood that can be trimmed in the field to follow any minor irregularities of the wall.
Flat (Plain) Slicing
cuts along length of the log parallel to surface; has a variegated wavy figure with grain lines closer together at the sides
Quarter Slicing
cuts perpendicular to growth rings, accentuating straight grain
Half-Round Slicing
cuts on an arc parallel to the center of the log
Rift Cut
accomplished by quartering a log and cutting it at 15 degree angle to the growth rings which results in minimal grain pattern
Rotary Cut
makes continuous rolls of veneer with variegated wavelike figure; used mostly for plywood. This produces a very pronounced grain pattern and produces the most veneer with the least waste.
