Q

Radiant Panel Test

A

ASTM E648 NFPA 253: used to rate interior floor finishes such as carpet, resilient flooring, and hardwood floor assemblies, as well as wall base. Originally developed to simulate the type of fire that develops in corridors and exit ways, the test measures the tendency of a floor covering material to spread a fire.

Measures are rated Class I, Class II or Class III with class I being required in corridors, hospitals and other occupancies where its more difficult to get out

AATCC 16

A

American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorist - test uses a Fade-Ometer to determine the color fastness under light exposure of textile materials using six different test options. The most common test option uses xenon arc lamp with continuous light.

16
Q

Parameter Method

A

uses base unit pricing per material when specific products are not yet selected

17
Q

Square Footage Method

A

based off of project type and used much before the design work has started

18
Q

Detailed Quantity Takeoff Method

A

used when the project has progressed to the point of specific manufacturers and products to determine a fairly exact budget number

19
Q

Matrix Costing

A

details pricing alternatives

20
Q

When selecting interior partition finishes to meet flame-spread standards, the most important considerations are

A

the occupancy group, and the location in the building where the finishes will be used

21
Q

FOB Destination

A

the seller retains title to the goods while in transit, because the title is transferred at the destination (delivery).

22
Q

FOB Shipping Point

A

the title is transferred to the buyer when the goods leave the manufacturer or seller.

23
Q

Scribe

A

an oversized piece of plastic laminate or wood that can be trimmed in the field to follow any minor irregularities of the wall.

24
Q

Flat (Plain) Slicing

A

cuts along length of the log parallel to surface; has a variegated wavy figure with grain lines closer together at the sides

25
Q

Quarter Slicing

A

cuts perpendicular to growth rings, accentuating straight grain

26
Q

Half-Round Slicing

A

cuts on an arc parallel to the center of the log

27
Q

Rift Cut

A

accomplished by quartering a log and cutting it at 15 degree angle to the growth rings which results in minimal grain pattern

28
Q

Rotary Cut

A

makes continuous rolls of veneer with variegated wavelike figure; used mostly for plywood. This produces a very pronounced grain pattern and produces the most veneer with the least waste.
