prognosis Flashcards
(tys question)
list some points about probing depth being a suitable or unsuitable prognostic indicator of perio
1) PD can be a guide to determine tx prognosis
- can talk about critical probing depths (Stambaugh 1981) show that sites <2.9mm will have more caloss caused by scrp etc and so based on the ppd, can sort of tell what the tx and prognosis will be?
2) PD measurements can be used to guide us in Biologic width – jedi wrote this but i dont realy agree bc how has this got to do with prognosis
3) probing depths can be used to help determine RISK of breakdown but is not a good predictor of future disease progression
- Mcguire 1996: deeper initial PD decreased the likelihood of improved prognosis after 5 years, more difficult to keep clean during home care, leading to further bone loss over time
