How can these principles be applied as a SLT?
A
- Respect for Persons: SLTs must respect the autonomy and dignity of their clients. This involves obtaining informed consent for therapy and ensuring that clients have the freedom to make decisions about their treatment.
- Obligation to Do Good: SLTs have an ethical duty to provide effective and beneficial therapy to their clients. They must use evidence-based practices and strive to achieve positive outcomes for their clients.
- Do No Harm: SLTs should take steps to prevent harm to their clients. This includes avoiding unnecessary physical or mental suffering during therapy and ensuring that therapy is safe and appropriate.
- Distribution of Resources: SLTs should allocate their resources, including time and expertise, in an equitable manner to provide the best care for their clients, regardless of socioeconomic status.
- Values: SLTs should embody values such as compassion, dedication, accountability, trustworthiness, empathy, integrity, and cooperation in their interactions with clients and colleagues.
