What happens when you make a product?
There is some sort of impact to the environment.
What is sustainability?
When something doesn’t cause permanent damage to the environment and doesn’t use up finite resources
What are finite recourses?
Resources that will run out eventually
What is a carbon footprint?
It’s the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the earths atmosphere by making, using, reusing, recycling and disposing of something.
What is an example of a greenhouse gas?
Carbon Dioxide and Methane
What’s important when making products?
To use materials that can be recycled
What is a planned obsolescence?
A product that is designed to become obsolete quickly
What does obsolete mean?
Useless
2 examples of planned obsolescence.
A disposable razor and a mobile phone
What is design for maintenance?
When a product is durable and parts of it can be repaired and not needed to be replaced
What does durable mean ?
That it will last
What does maintain mean?
To keep something
What’s an example of design for maintenance?
Most household products are as they can be expensive so replacing them when they break would be wasteful. Eg: washing machines - they can be fixed by installing a new parts
What are modular electronics
Electronics that can be individually upgraded
