What are macronutrients?
They are nutrients that we need a large amount of; macro means large - proteins, fats and carbohydrates
What food do we get proteins from?
Meat, fish, diary products, nuts, seeds and beans.
What are proteins made of?
Amino acids
What are essential amino acids
The amino acids that we have to eat but our bodies can’t make
What are the non essential amino acids ?
The amino acids our bodies can make
Why do we need protein?
For growth, repair and maintenance.
What is HBV?
High Biological Values - proteins that contain all the essential amino acids we need
What is LBV?
Low Biological Values - proteins that are missing one or more of the essential amino acids we need
How much proteins should a man and women consume?
An average male - 55g per day. An average female - 45g per day. Pregnant women - 6g more

A pie chart that shows how much of each food group is recommended.
