production process Flashcards
1
Q
What are the different methods of production process?
A
- job production
- batch production
- flow production
2
Q
What is job production?
A
concentrates on producing one product from start to finish
(labour intensive and relies on skilled workers not machines)
3
Q
pros of job production?
A
- can sell the product for premium price
- goods often ordered and paid beforehand (better cash flow and reduced waste of stock)
4
Q
cons of job production?
A
- requires highly skilled workers (costs for staff wages and training)
- production is slower than flow and batch
5
Q
What is batch production?
A
When products are made in groups and batches
6
Q
pros of batch production?
A
- When batches are made in huge amounts machines can be used instead of workers
- ranges of size/.shape/color
7
Q
cons of batch production?
A
- lots of storage space is needed for a variety of different parts/sizes/types.
- when switching between batches there will be downtime.(i.e no products being made during this time but the buisness will still have a number of costs to pay)
8
Q
What is flow production?
A
mass production of the same product.
(relies on machines not skilled workers)
9
Q
pros of flow production?
A
- productivity is high (amount of products made in a day)
- less likely to need highly skilled workers (lower wage)
10
Q
cons of flow production?
A
- repetitive and boring for workers and lack of job satisfaction
- very high costs in the short term (e.g o machinery)
