Production Flashcards
What is primary and secondary processing
The first stage of production such as turning raw materials into standard stock sizes and secondary forming and assembling the product
Benefits of CAD CAM
Accurate
Repeatable
Flexible
Reduced labour costs
Difference between QA and QC
QA checks all the material, production throughout but QC is checking the actual protect before, during and after
What is casting
A mould that is pre-made and special materials are poured down that fill the mould and cast the shape. A runner forms the shape and a riser lets the air out
What is die casting
Melting a metal, ramming it into a mould and applying pressure to let it set, like when we made the pewter necklace
What’s injection/blow moulding
Like die casting but using a hydraulic system to keep it in place, turned by a screw to transport. Blow moulding uses pressure to form around the outside of the given shape as the spilt mould closes
What’s an extrusion
Forcing a material through a long process, such as an icing bag or making plastic drain pipes
What is forging
Iron and steel can be heated until they soften and then by using a hammer or force can bend the metal into shape
Die cutting - what is it
Cutting a hole out of a material
Advantages and disadvantages of battery drills
A: No lead, use outside, non-lethal
D: Recharged
Advantages and disadvantages of mains drills
A: Go forever, more powerful
D: Trip hazard, lethal
What’s routing
Different holes and intrusions can be made, or a CNC can be used to make a 3D version
What’s a lathe
Using a blade next to work to create an edge or polish a corner
What’s pasteurisation
Destroys pathogenic bacteria
What is welding and soldering
Welding is using heat to melt metals together
Soldering is using an alloy to join two together
