Product Safety (Year 13 Mock) Flashcards
What are the different methods of ensuring safety?
Training Guarding of machines Personal protective clothing Extraction COSHH Risk assessment
Training
Employees would be trained to ensure that they can safely use equipment. This is usually done in a health and safety course.
Guarding of machines
HSE (Heath and safety Executive) require most machines to be guarded to prevent employees hurting themselves. Guards can range from covers for saws to sophisticated infra-red light beams which switch off the power when the beam is broken.
Personal Protective Clothing
Depending on the task employees have to wear safety goggles, boots, masks and overalls.
Extraction
In some work places dust and fumes cause health problems so extractors are required to suck all the dust particles and harmful fumes.
COSHH (control of substances Hazardous to health)
Is a set of HSE regulation and guidance for the storage and handling of potentially dangerous materials.
Risk assessment
Is a calculation of hazards associated with a manufacturing process or job. It assesses if the jobs is a low, medium or high risk to the employee, which then allows you to determine what precautions are needed to be taken
