Product Design Y08 Spr1 Flashcards
1.1 iteration/ iterative design process
The repetition of process until the desired outcome is achieved.
1.2 design brief
A statement given to the designer telling them what they need to design.
1.3 analysis of brief
Looking at the design brief in detail to identify WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY, HOW.
1.4 task analysis
Analysing exactly what is required of the product you have been asked to design & make.
1.5 product analysis
Looking in detail at different aspects of a product (ACCESSFM).
1.6 research
Finding out information that will help you design & make a product ‘fit for purpose’.
1.7 form
The shape of a product and how it is put together.
1.8 function
What the product (& individual parts) need to do.
1.9 design specification
A list of requirements of the product decided at the design stage.
2.0 WHO WHAT WHERE WHY HOW
- Will be using the product?
- Does the product need to do?
- Will it be used?
- Is the product needed?
- Are you going to make the product? - *(What do you need to find out?)
3.1 3 dimensional
A three-dimensional object is solid rather than flat, because it can be measured in three different directions, usually the height, length, and width. The abbreviation 3-D.
3.2 isometric projection
A drawing technique that uses vertical lines and lines at 30⁰.
3.3 2 point perspective
A drawing technique that uses 2 vanishing points to help draw a 3d shape to give the illusion of depth.
4.1 polymers
Synthetic material mostly made from oil – usually called plastic.
4.2 thermosetting polymer
a polymer (plastic) that cannot be reshaped by heating – non-recyclable.
