the process of creating new products or services for firms to sell.
what will businesses who are good at product design also good at?
Researching new products, good at developing them and good at coming up with new and innovative ideas that customers will buy.
what’s product differentiation?
making your product different to your competitors’ products.
what’s a product/ service’s unique selling point (USP)?
it’s the part of the product or service that’s different to anything else in the market
e.g Tesla’s USP is that their cars run on electricity rather than petrol or diesel.
How is brand image or product image important to a business?
it can differentiate products from competitors’ products
which three aspects does a business usually have in mind when producing a product ?
function, cost and aesthetics.
what’s ‘function’ when it comes to producing products?
the way a product works (including the different aspects of how it works)
e.g when designing a speaker you’ll need oto think about if it’ll be bluetooth or wireless and is so how much will it cost.
what’s ‘cost’ when it comes to producing products?
product design and its features affect how much the product will cost to make so then price is an important consideration when designing a product.
what are ‘aesthetics’ when it comes to producing products?
product image (or the way a product looks) can make a product stand out from the competition, but it also has an important impact on the overall brand image of the business.
why’s brand image important?
because it’s essentially the reputation of the business. This isn’t just important for selling the product but also for selling the business’ other products ad services.
