Product considerations Flashcards
What are the three types of specification?
Design specification - created from design brief after research
Product specification - inventories material and equipment
Manufacturing specification - lists of materials and equipment, identifies tasks in sequence
What 7 elements need to be considered on a specification?
Form - shape Function User requirements Materials and components Scale of production Budget Sustainability
What is primary research?
The process of gathering information yourself such as by questionnaires, focus groups (small groups of consumers), shows and exhibitions
What is secondary research?
Secondary research relies on information collected by other people. For example, statistics, market reports, websites, trade publications (i.e. Magazines), newspapers, books
Give 8 examples of inspiration for design
Art, graphics, materials and fabrics, exhibitions, fairs & shows, cinema, travel, architecture, furniture and interior design, nature
What is product analysis?
It involves disassembling an existing product to identify its key features which helps develop a new product or improve an existing product
What are ergonomics?
Ergonomics is the relationship between people and the products which they use
What are anthropometrics?
Anthropometrics is the study of the sizes of people in relation to products
What is intelligence gathering?
Intelligence gathering is the process of gathering lots of detailed information about the target market
After research why do you need to analyse and evaluate the information gathered?
To see if there is a clear trends in the data and to see how your research will impact on your design
How can research findings be displayed?
Using ICT for example tables, pie charts, star profile, line graphs, histograms, pictographs. Or a mood board to provide a visual summary
