Prodcuts in manufacturing Flashcards
What is Manufacturing?
Several processes carried out that result in a product.
What is an advancement in manufacturing?
Automation , smart technology and specialised building
What is an advantage of automation?
Efficient, cheaper long-term, precise.
What is a disadvantage of automation?
expensive to buy, lack of human judgement
What is smart technology?
The sharing of data and info across multiple automated machinery to get manufacture done efficiently.
What is specialised buildings?
Factory buildings made in components so if extra production space is need they can be added or removed.
What are the two types of manufacturing?
FMS and LM
What is FMS?
Several automated machines that carry out different processes of a product.
What is an advantage of FMS?
Flexible because machines can be added or removed depending on level of production.
What is LM?
A type of manufacturiong that minimises wastage and maximises efficiency and money made
What is JIT system?
By manufacturing products as soon as they are delivered for maximum efficiency.
What is an advantage of LM?
Reduces waste and lower stock levels meaning theres no need for renting a whole warehouse for soring material.
What is a disadvantage of LM?
Products that are delivered must not be faulty as there is not time for returning faulty products.
What is CAD?
Computer aided design
What is CAM?
Computer aided Manufacture
What makes CAM machines so precise?
They follow x,y,z coordinates
What are some CAM machines?
Milling machine, CNC router, Laser cutter and 3D printer
What are some CAD software?
Google sketchup, techsoft design and SolidWorks
What are some examples of 2 axis machines?
, laser cutter, CNC router
What are some 3 axis machines?
Milling machine, 3d printer and CNC router
What are some addition machines?
3D printer,
What are some subtraction machines?
Milling machine, laser cutter and CNC router
