Q

What processes occur at the destructive plate boundaries?

A

Convection currents causes oceanic and continental plates to come together. The friction caused by the currents, drag the plates together. A slab of the oceanic plate is subducted in the mantle. Oceanic melts and rises as magma in the magma chamber. Destructive boundaries result in fold mountains and trenches.

Q

What processes occur at constructive plate boundaries?

A

Hot magma rises from the aesthenosphere (upper mantle) towards the lithosphere(crust). As it rises, the magma forces itself between the two plates, causing the plates to move away from eachother. As the magma fills the gaps, it cools forming a new crust. This process continues until an underwater mountain rage called a ridge is formed.

Q

What processes occur at the conservative boundaries?

A

The plates are sliding past eachother. This friction causes earthquakes to occur. Sometimes the plates move against eachother, but some move in the same direction but in different speeds.

Q

What process occurs at collisional boundaries?

A

Convection currents causes 2 oceanic or 2 continental plate boundaries to come together. They collide and fold upward creating fold mountains.
