Q

What and how does prediction work?

A

It is seismologists studying data across active plate boundaries, monitering previously hit areas for tectonic activity. It works so people who live near thoses areas can set up a early warning system and prepare by building infrastructure resistant to tectonic activity.

Q

What and how does early warning systems work?

A

Seismologists and GPS are used to moniter foreshocks and electromagnetic waves can be passed through rocks to try to detect developing fractures. Finally, using phone networks to warn locals to take cover. It helps mitigate damage to property and harm to people.

Q

What and how does builiding design work?

A

It is earthquake-proof buildings. It can have a pendulum to counteract swaying caused by waves, shatterproof windows, shock absorbers.
