Processes, Techniques and Specialist tools Flashcards
Marking Gauge
Marking a line parallel to an edge
Cutting Gauge
Cutting across the grain of the wood
Mortise Gauge
To scribe on joints of wood prior to cutting.
Odd Leg
Used to scribe a line at a set distance from the edge of a workpiece
Internal and external Callipers
Measuring the dimensions of an object.
Set squares
Providing a straightedge at a right angle or other particular angle to a baseline
Try square
Used on manufactured wood to mark lines at 90 degrees to an edge.
Engineer Square
Used on metals to mark lines at 90 degrees to an edge
Mitre Square
Used on manufactured boards to mark lines at 45 degrees to an edge.
Micrometre
Digital reading for external thickness eg diameter.
Accurate up to =-0.001mm
Vernier Callipers
Digital reading for external thickness eg thickness.
Accurate up to =-0.02mm
Densitometer
Digital reading to measure the degree of darkness, to help calibrate printing equipment.
Dividers
Marking out and measuring tool, measure distance between two points.
Also, it can mark out circles on wood/metal/polymer.
Jig
Holds the work and guides the tool- eliminating the need to repeatedly mark out.
Fixture
Holds work in a given position while a manufacturing process takes place.
