Processes and Layouts Flashcards
How are operations executed
Using tactical decisions
What two factors must the manufacturing environment respond to?
Variety and Volume
What is variety in manufacturing
How unique is the product produced
What is volume in manufacturing
How many units are being produced
What is a manufacturing environment
The framework in which manufacturing strategy is developed and implemented
What is repetitive manufacturing
The repeated prduction of the same discrete products or families of products
What is project manufacturing process
Project management works to minimize lead time and costs for integration
What is work center manufacturing process
Products are made-to-order for customers
What is batch manufacturing process
Products are either made-to-order or assembled to order
What is line manufacturing process
Descrete parts move through the same sequence of operations at a controlled rate
What is continuous manufacturing process
Continuous manufacturing involves few parts, how volume, low to medium variety, and a high rate of production of non-discrete make to stock units
What is fixed position layout manufacturing
A factory layout that plans for the product to be in a set place, the people, machines, and tools are brought to and from the product
What is functional layout manufacturing
A facility configuration in which operations of a similar nature or function are grouped together based on departmental specialty
What is cellular manufacturing
A manufacturing process that produces families of parts within a single line or cell of machines controlled by operators who work only within the line or cell
What is product based layout
A type of layout where resources are arranged sequentially according to the steps requried to make a particular complex product
