Process of Inspiration and Expiration (Thoracic Volume & Pressure) Flashcards
What is the process of breathing in?
1 - Diaphragm contracts and move down, intercostal muscles pull the ribs out.
2 - Thoracic cavity volume increases.
3 - Air pressure in lungs decreases (fewer collisions in the lungs)
4 - Air particles move from high pressure to low pressure.
5 - Air rushes into lungs.
What is the process of breathing out?
1 - Diaphragm relaxes and moves up, intercostal muscles relax the rib cage.
2 - Thoracic cavity volume decreases.
3 - Air pressure in lungs increases (many more collisions in the lungs)
4 - Air particles move to low pressure from high pressure.
5 - Air rushes out of lungs.
What is the thoracic cavity?
Is the lung volume (how much room/space is on the lungs)
