Initiating Process Group Purpose
- Consists of processes that define a new project that define a new project to start
- Align stakeholder expectations and purpose
- Inform stakeholders of objectives
- Discuss how participation can help ensure expectations are met
- Stakeholders who can influence the outcome are identified
- PM will be appointed if not already done
- If charter is approved then the project is officially authorized and the PM is in to apply resources to the activities
- Only projects aligned w/ the orgs strategy are authorized and the business case, benefits, and stakeholders are considered from the start until close
PM Role for Initiating Process Group
- PM can be involved in developing business case and defining benefits
- Then would help w/ project charter
- Some orgs the PM will not be involved in the pre-project work as listed above

Planning Process Group Purpose
- Consists of processes that establish total scope, define and refine objectives, and develop course of action required to attain objectives
- Project Management Plan and Project Documents are created
- Key benefit – defines course of action to complete the project or phase
- Additional planning will be required throughout the project
- Ongoing refinement – Progressive Elaboration or Rolling Wave Planning (iterative activities)
PM role in Planning Process Group
- Seek input and encourage and facilitate involvement from stakeholders
- Project management plan and project documents = baselines
- Compare statuses of the project to baselines and manage changes appropriately w/ updates to baseline if applicable

Key benefit – work needed to meet the project objectives is performed according to plan
Consists of processes performed to complete the work defined din the project management plan to satisfy the project requirements
Tasks involved include
- Coordinating resources
- Managing stakeholder engagement
- Integrating and performing the activities of the project
PM Role for Executing Process Group
- Delegate appropriate responsibilities through effective communication
- Build team cohesiveness to both external and internal stakeholders
- Integrate parts of the project work into a cohesive role
- Ensure stakeholder needs are being met in relation to the approved scope

Monitoring & Controlling Process Group Purpose
Key Benefit – project performance is measured and analyzed at regular intervals to identify and correct variances from the project management plan
Monitoring:
- Collecting performance data
- Producing performance measures
- Reporting and disseminating performance info to the appropriate stakeholders
- Provides the team and other stakeholders w/ the status of the project and identifies any areas that require additional attention
Controlling:
- Comparing actual performance w/ the planned performance
- Analyzing variances
- Evaluation of possible alternatives
- Recommending appropriate changes

- Consists of the process to formally complete or close a project, phase, or contract
- Verifies the defined processes are completed w/in all
- Key benefit s- phases, projects, and contracts are closed out appropriately

- Finalizing all project activities to ensure resources are released
- Documents are updated and archived
- Organizational process assets and lessons learned are updated
- Contracts are closed
- Performance metrics and reports are complete
