Q

What is event recording?

A

Detecting and recording the number of times a behavior of interest occurs.
Each instance of behavior must have a discrete beginning and an end

Q

What is timing?

A

Timing the duration of a behavior
Time latency and IRT
Activating a timing device when behavior starts and deactivate when it stops

Methods for observing and recording behavior during intervals or at specific moments in time

Q

When do you use time sampling?

A

When you can’t measure behavior continuously
The measures obtained from these samples are considered to be representative of behavior during entire time period observed

7
Q

What is whole interval recording?

A

Used most often to measure continuous behaviors or those that occur at such high rates that it is difficult to distinguish one response from the next. This method allows you to detect whether or not the behavior is occurring

Q

What are parts of whole interval recording?

A

1-observation period is divided into a series of time intervals
2-depending on the behavior of interest and the length of te entire observation he intervals can be broken down into seconds or minutes 3- at the end of each interval observer records whether the behavior occurred throughout the entire interval

9
Q

What is partial-interval recording?

A

1-observer records whether the behavior occurred at any time during the interval
2-not concerned with frequency of the behavior or the duration of he behavior 3-behavior occurs one time or lore than one time in an interval it is scored the same way 4- it often overestimates the actual occurrence

Q

What is momentary time sampling?

A

Detects whether the target behavior is occurring at the moment that each time interval ends
-the observer looks up at the target person at the interval mark, determine immediately if behavior was occurring and record the data on the interval recording form

Q

When are momentary time sampling used?

A

Observer doesn’t have to attend continuously
Used often for continuous activity behaviors that are easy to identify
Not used for low frequcney short durations behaviors

Q

What does permanent product measure?

A
  • measuring behavior after it occur by measuring the effects hat the behavior produced on he environment
  • called an ex post facto method if data collection

A
Audiotape of behavior
Foul language, oral reading, music played
videotape of behavior
Self-stimulators behavior
Engagement temporary permanent products
16
Q

What are permanent products advantages?

A

Not having to observer behavior as it occurs
Makes behavior available that occurs at inconvenient/inaccessible times or places
Measurement may be more accurate complete and continuous
Provides data for IOA and treatment integrity
Allows for measurement of complex behaviors and multiple response class
