Idle Taxi
CARS checklist (Rudder Down)
No more than 1,000 RPM
Ailerons: Turn in, dive away
Plow Turn
CARS Checklist (Rudder Down) Pick 180 deg reference point Full power then 2300 RPM Rudder direction of turn, opposite aileron Passing 90 deg, stick away from wind Neutralize ailerons and rudders downwind Reduce power as required
Step Taxi/ Turn
CARS Checklist (Rudders Up)
Full power till established on step then:
Relax back pressure
RPM: 2000 upwind/ 2100 elsewhere
Normal Takeoff
CARS Checklist
Liftoff
Climb out at 60 MPH attitude
Normal Landing
WLNOT Checklist Maintain 60 MPH attitude Close throttle when landing assured Level off at 10 ft Apply continuous back pressure
Rough Water Takeoff
CARS Checklist
Pitch up 5 degree higher than normal
Rough Water Landing
Approach power off Level off at 10 ft Add 1400 RPM Min airspeed, Nose Up Power off after touchdown
Glassy Water Takeoff
CARS Checklist Full power When on step slight left aileron to lift right float Fly off the left float, then wings level Positive ROC
Glassy Water Landing
Pick LVR Power off Normal landing attitude established before or passing LVR Add 1700 RPM Allow seaplane to fly itself into water
Confined Area Takeoff
CARS Checklist
Position aircraft crosswind
Apply takeoff power until on step
Turn left, when right float breaks the surface make shallow left bank
Climbing left turn until obstacles are clear
Emergency Landing
Pitch for 60 MPH
Pick landing area
Approach as required to land in adequate lane
DO NOT LAND DOWNWIND
IF glassy Water, land close to shore
Power off sailing
Same stick, opposite rudder, tail points in desired direction
Power on sailing
Stick opposite, rudder same, nose favors direction
Anchoring
Select suitable area, anchor lines and lengths
Light and heavier anchor of overnight
Docking
Check dock for obstacles
Dock upwind so to slow seaplane
One mag and carb heat if necessary
Power off when docking assured
Mooring
Ensure anchor compatible with bottom
Bridle to both bow cleats
Water rudders up
Light if overnight
Beaching
Survey for the air and when approaching Paddle if you cannot see shore Mags off when beaching assured After beaching, raise water rudders Turn seaplane and tie down with wing struts and aft cleats
Ramping
Strong winds put water rudders down at ramp
Approach at brisk idle
Mags off when ramping assured
Weathervaning Turn
Full same rudder and opposite aileron
Close throttle
Water rudders UP
Passing 90 degrees full aileron into wind
