Q

What is a primary difference between reduced thrust takeoff and rated thrust takeoff?

A

Reduced thrust takeoff (assumed temperature method) is not a takeoff operating limitation, since VMC is based on full rated thrust.

Derated thrust (TO1/TO2) is an operating limitation. Additional thrust added, may result in loss of aircraft control. When sheer or additional acceleration after V1 are conditions which may require additional thrust. I.E. de rated thrust lowers VMC. Using de rated thrust may provide the performance required on contaminated runways.
