Q

Why was this in Edwards favour?

A

Because it made a lot of barons hugely in-debt to him so he could ensure support from them and if he needed money, he could ask for all their debt to be paid at once

Q

Why was crusading a problem during Henry’s reign?

A

Henry never had enough money to go on crusade or wasn’t in a string position to leave the country
He soon saw a crusade, however, that looked like it could restore the country and he could get some barons to go with Prince Edward.
This didn’t work

Q

Why was their s problem wth taxation and parliament in Henry’s reign?

A

Henry requested a lot of taxes to pay for his crusades: Managed to get 1/20th if I come to pay for his son’s crusade.
However these taxes were only granted if Henry acted on some grievances parliament brought onto him.
There still wasn’t enough money for the crusade anyway.

Q

What was an indication that royal authority was secured?

A

Although Edward was on a crusade when his dad died, he didn’t rush home to be crowned ( came back in two years!) which shows that Edward believed the country was in a string position
