Q

Shortens family suffering

A

If the patient was allowed to die at a certain time in a certain place the family would experience less emotional, physical and psychological suffering. This the most loving thing to do as garb wouldn’t have to watch their loved one suffer any longer than necessary.

Q

Extra pressure on society if not allowed

A

The breakdown of the traditional family (nuclear) and an increase in getting married later and single parents means there are a decreased amount of people to look after - and fund- their elderly relatives.
Extra pressure on NHS, hospices, organ donation lists and society as a whole

Q

Ends suffering

A

Pain relief medication only helps to a certain extent.
In the case of terminal illness the majority of the time the outcome is death. Therefore it is the most compassionate thing to do to let them die when they feel it is the right time and not prolong their pain because other people don’t believe they should die yet.

Limited NHS resources are being used up to prolong life for a few days

A

Treatment = expensive
Life support = expensive and not cost effective
There are more effective ways to spend NHS money such as on chemotherapy and organ donations for children who will go on to lead healthy lives.

Legalisation would help regulate what already happens

A

Principle of Double Effect means doctors are not accountable for undesired secondary effects if action produces good primary effects.
