what are daily prayers
these are prayers done at home by jews where they are expected to pray 3 times daily; in the morning(shacharit), afternoon(minchah) and evening(maariv)
describe kiddush
it is a sanctifying ceremony and blessing over wine or grape juice to sanctify Shabbat and holy days.
At the beginning of the evening meal Kiddush is recited on shabbat and Jewish holy days therefore following a command from the Torah. the 1st part of kiddush is a reciting from Gen 2:1-3 (which speaks of God resting after creation) and wine is used to symbolise the sweetness and joy then blessings of the day are said over 2 loaves of white bread
How do Jews prepare for shabbat in the home
- the house is cleaned
- food is prepared in advance
- family members bathe
- at dusk the mother of the family will light 2 candles welcoming the sabbath by saying a blessing and gesturing with her arms
what is the name of the bread eaten on shabbat
challot- these are plaited loaves which commemorate the double portion of manna which God provided before each Shabbat during the exodus. they are blessed, cut and dipped in salt
