What is the basis for prioritization of nursing problems?
Nursing Problems are prioritized according to the classification of the nursing diagnosis whether it’s an actual nursing diagnosis, risk and high risk nursing diagnosis, possible nursing diagnosis, wellness nursing diagnosis or collaborative nursing problems.
Example: Actual nursing diagnosis takes priority over all other forms.
What does actual nursing diagnosis refer to?
Actual nursing diagnosis refers to problems currently existing and affecting the patient. This is further broken to analyze which the most life is threatening by using the ABC or Airway, Breathing, Circulation prioritization.
Example: Prioritization during triage admission is also the same element of prioritizing nursing care problems.
What is Maslow Hierarchy of Needs Theory used for in prioritization?
Maslow Hierarchy of Needs Theory is another basis in making prioritization. In cases of co-existing nursing problems under the same category in Maslow’s hierarchy, Kalish interpretation provided a better breakdown of what problems to act on first.
