Principles of training Flashcards
Individual needs
When planning training sessions, the needs of the individual athlete comes first.
Can you use someone else’s programme?
No you cant because it wont work because every athlete has different meeds and different sports they do. You cant use a marathon runners programme because it wont suite you.
Specificity
The specific means matching training to he requirements of an activity. Every sport has its own specialist needs;divers and long distance runners obviously train in different ways. Specificity in football might mean concentrating on cardiovascular fitness or speed.
Progressive overload
Gradually increasing the amount of overload to improve fitness. You don’t want to drastically overload very fast as you can get injured. A weight lifter looking to improve their strength in the gym may lift 80kg for 10 reps in week 1. Then increase that weight to 82.5 in week 2.
The FITT principle
The FITT principle enables you to plan an exercise programme to get the most out of it as safely as possible. F-frequency-(how often) I-intensity-(how hard) T-time-(how long) T-type-(what method)
