Popular Sovereignty
All power comes from the people; government gets all of its power through voting.
Limited Government
Gov. powers are limited to what’s written in the Constitution; no one is above the law.
Separation Of Powers
Divided gov. into 3 branches; Executive, Legislative, Judicial. Each branch has own responsibilities (none has too much power)
Checks And Balances
Each branch has a “check” on the others. Ensures none have too much control.
Federalism
Power is shared/divided by states and national (federal) gov. Federal>State often but not always.
Republicanism
Government where citizens elect representatives.
Individual Rights
Liberties of each individual to purse life without people/government interference.
