What is governance?
Governance is the process by which an organisation safeguards the interests of its stakeholders and delivers its objectives through a monitored framework of rules & procedures
What is corporate governance?
The mechanism by which an organisation can demonstrate that it has systems in place to manage its corporate functions
Name three principles of corporate governance
Selflessness - holders of public office should act solely in the public interest and should not act in order to gain financial or other benefits for themselves
Integrity - Holders of public office must not place themselves under the influence of external individuals or organisations
Accountability - Holders of public office must submit themselves to whatever scrutiny required
What is clinical governance?
A framework through which organisations are accountable to continually improving the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellent in clinical care will flourish

What was a key finding of the Francis report?
No effective governance - there was a very poor flow of information, poor quality information.
Also needed to allow staff space to whistleblow.
