Style is different from GENRE.
This includes physical theatre, realism, absurd, musical theatre etc.
What does a playwright use to tell his story?
The playwright uses characters.
What makes up a traditional well made play?
An Exposition - Climax - Denoument - and then the end.
What influences the context of a play?
The playwrights socio-political context.
What does socio political mean and what role does it play in the theatre?
Socio-political context is what influences the playwrights plays context. It’s what is happening in society at that moment.
What are given circumstances?
Who, what, when, where, how and why.
What is the purpose of tableaux?
To establish characters relationships as well as give a sense of status in the plays society as well as with the characters.
What is genre?
It refers to the content of the play and he way the story is told.
What is comedy?
A play or movie hat invokes laughter.
The characters are portrayed as believable, even the stereotypes.
Comedy’s relief on wit
The plot is fairly true to life.
What is tragedy?
Deals with sad events.
Tragedy appeals to reason.
Plot is true to life
Playwrights intention is to make the audience criticism society.
What are themes?
The THEMES of a play are the ideas the playwright explores through his/her plot and characters.
What are symbols?
SYMBOLS are the visual representation of themes. This can be achieved through props, set design, even lighting and sound.

List some versions of non verbal communication?
Mime - using ones body to tell story
Gesture - using hand movements
Body language - the way one sits, stands etc
Facial expressions - the look in ones face
What are tools of modulation?
Pitch - The pitch of a sound is its place on the musical scale. Variations in pitch (or inflections) indicate whether a speaker is asking for or giving information, and indicate emotional qualities
Pace - Pace is the term used to describe the rate of speech and the use of pause.
Pause - A pause is a rest or stopping of the voice.
Emphasis - Emphasis in speech means to give a word or phrase prominence or importance.
Intonation - the rise and fall of the voice in speaking.
Tone - The tone of the voice reflects moods and feelings as well as intention.
