- federalism
- bipartisanship
- checks and balances

what does federalism mean
A
- power + sovereignty = shared out and divided between the states and federal governments

what does bipartisanship mean
A
- 2 or more political parties working together to achieve an outcome
- enforced by need for supermajorities

what does checks and balances mean
A
- monitoring the other branches to provide a balance of power so one branch is not being over assertive

what does the separation of powers mean
A
- 3 powers –> legislature (congress), judiciary and president
- each have different roles and responsibilities

what does limited government mean
A
- small scale government and state
- government is subject to restrictions on the power I can exercise over the country and its citizens
